It is recorded in the history of  Richmond College that a prefect body was formed during the period of Rev. J.H Darrell (1896-1906).It is in his words that the aim of forming a prefects’ body of the college was stated as follows.

Rev. J.H Darrell

“Sense of responsibility among the students of upper classes needs to be established. It is possible to absorb the strength of the students with the intention of using that for the process of administration and to enhance the good will of the college.giving the priority for these two objectives, the prefect body of the college is formed.”

According to the facts stated,it is believed that the formation of the prefects’ body of the college was initially done during the period of Rev. Darrell. After the role of Rev. Darrell,Rev. W.J.T Small, the principal of the college, who worked as the chief editor of the Centenary Magazine (1976),has stated about the prefects’ body as follows.

“The prefects’ body of Richmond College was formed during the period of Rev. Darrell,in between the years 1896-1906.”

Even though it was not stated the exact date of the beginning of the prefects body of the college,in another important source available in the college, the college Log entry book, started by Mr. W.H.Solaman, it bears evidence as Rev. Darrell in his hand writing, had recorded about the prefects body on 20th December in 1898 as follows.

According to the facts stated,it is possible to admit that the first prefects’ body was formed in 1898 or after the year 1896.
